恭读约纳先知书 3:1-10
上主的话传给约纳说：“你起身往尼尼微大城去，向他们宣告我晓谕你的事。” 约纳便依从上主的话，起身去了尼尼微。尼尼微在天主前是一座大城，需要三天的行程。约纳开始进城，行了一天的路程，宣布说：“还有四十天，尼尼微就要毁灭了。”
尼尼微人便信仰了天主，立即宣布禁食，从大到小，都身披苦衣。当这消息传到尼尼微王那里，他便起来，离开自己的宝座，脱去长服，披上苦衣，坐在灰土中；然后命人以君王的谕令和其大臣的名义，在尼尼微宣布说：“人、牲畜、牛羊，都不可吃什么；不可牧放，也不可喝水。人和牲畜，都应身披苦衣，人要恳切呼求天主，更要转离自己的邪路，放弃手中的暴行。谁知道天主也许会转意怜悯，收回自己的烈怒，使我们不致灭亡。” 天主看到他们所行的事，看到他们离开了自己的邪路，遂怜悯他们，不将已宣布的灾祸，降在他们身上。
Reading 1
A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jonah 3:1-10
The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:
“”Set out for the great city of Nineveh,
and announce to it the message that I will tell you.””
So Jonah made ready and went to Nineveh,
according to the LORD’s bidding.
Now Nineveh was an enormously large city;
it took three days to go through it.
Jonah began his journey through the city,
and had gone but a single day’s walk announcing,
“”Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed,””
when the people of Nineveh believed God;
they proclaimed a fast
and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth.
When the news reached the king of Nineveh,
he rose from his throne, laid aside his robe,
covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in the ashes.
Then he had this proclaimed throughout Nineveh,
by decree of the king and his nobles:
“”Neither man nor beast, neither cattle nor sheep,
shall taste anything;
they shall not eat, nor shall they drink water.
Man and beast shall be covered with sackcloth and call loudly to God;
every man shall turn from his evil way
and from the violence he has in hand.
Who knows, God may relent and forgive, and withhold his blazing wrath,
so that we shall not perish.””
When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way,
he repented of the evil that he had threatened to do to them;
he did not carry it out.

恭读圣路加福音 11:29-32
群众集合拢来的时候，耶稣开始说：“这一世代是一邪恶的世代：它要求征兆，除了约纳的征兆外，必不给它任何其他征兆。因为，有如约纳为尼尼微人是个征兆，将来人子为这一世代也是这样。南方的女王，在审判时，将同这一代人起来，定他们的罪，因为她从地极来，听撒罗满的智慧；看，这里有一位大于撒罗满的！尼尼微人在审判时，将同这一代人起来，定他们的罪，因为尼尼微人因了约纳的宣讲而悔改了；看，这里有一位大于约纳的！”
Gospel
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 11:29-32
While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them,
“This generation is an evil generation;
it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it,
except the sign of Jonah.
Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,
so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
At the judgment
the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation
and she will condemn them,
because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon,
and there is something greater than Solomon here.
At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation
and condemn it,
because at the preaching of Jonah they repented,
and there is something greater than Jonah here.”
