Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

恭读户籍纪 21:4-9
那时候，以色列子民在旷野，很不耐烦。
他们抱怨天主和梅瑟，说：“你们为什么领我们由埃及上来，死在旷野？这里没有粮食，又没有水，我们对这些轻淡的食物，已感厌恶。”
上主就打发火蛇，到人民当中，咬死了许多以色列人。人民于是来到梅瑟面前，说：“我们犯了罪，抱怨了上主和你；请你转求上主，给我们赶走这些蛇。”梅瑟于是为人民转求。
上主对梅瑟说：“你做一条火蛇，挂在木竿上；凡是被咬的，一瞻仰牠，必得生存。” 梅瑟就做了一条铜蛇，挂在木竿上；那些被蛇咬了的人，一瞻仰铜蛇，就保存了生命。
Reading 1
A reading from the book of Numbers 21:4b-9
With their patience worn out by the journey,
the people complained against God and Moses,
“Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in this desert,
where there is no food or water?
We are disgusted with this wretched food!”
In punishment the LORD sent among the people saraph serpents,
which bit the people so that many of them died.
Then the people came to Moses and said,
“We have sinned in complaining against the LORD and you.
Pray the LORD to take the serpents from us.”
So Moses prayed for the people, and the LORD said to Moses,
“Make a saraph and mount it on a pole,
and if any who have been bitten look at it, they will live.”
Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole,
and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent
looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
福音
恭读圣若望福音 3:13-17
那时候，耶稣对尼苛德摩说：
“没有人上过天，除了那自天降下，而仍在天上的人子。正如梅瑟曾在旷野里高举了蛇，人子也应照样，被举起来，使凡信的人，在他内获得永生。”
天主竟然这样爱了世界，甚至赐下了自己的独生子，使凡信他的人，不至丧亡，反而获得永生，因为天主没有派遣子到世界上来，审判世界，而是为叫世界，借着他而获救。
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 3:13-17
Jesus said to Nicodemus:
“No one has gone up to heaven
except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
